Listen For Rapping At Your Door In This $4.99 Fantasy – May 4

NEVERMORE said the Raven, NEVERMORE…

When Edgar Allan Poe visits The Lake Drummond Motel, and The Great Dismal Swamp, he finds himself caught up in one of his own tales. With his familiar, a crow named Grimm, Lenore, an artist who frees trapped spirits, and others he must unravel the mystery locked away in an ancient fairy tale before it’s too late to save those he loves.

Fans of Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and Clive Barker will love NEVERMORE!

NEVERMORE was inspired by the author’s reading old North Carolina folklore about two trees thought to contain spirits. Matthew McConaughey would be perfect as Poe.

This is also available on Nook.

EXCERPT:

Edgar tried to finish the story, to give it a proper ending, and seal away the shadows, but as he worked, the images faded. He fought a losing battle with his mind for control of the words. He heard the loud flutter of wings. He saw the dead man’s blood, seeping into the ground. He saw a woman’s startled face, and a drawing, a tree, and then a stream of faces, one after the other, roaring directly at him and dissipating to smoke as they brushed his eyelashes. And then – as suddenly as it all began – it was gone. He sat stunned, staring at the scratched, torn paper on the table and the ruined, brutalized tip of his pen. Grimm was nowhere to be seen, and from what seemed very far away, he heard a woman’s cry, and the crash of something falling.

DAVID NIALL WILSON

David Niall Wilson has been writing professionally since the mid 1980s. His first novel, “This is My Blood,” won critical acclaim and has become something of a cult classic. Over the ensuing years, David has been president of the Horror Writer’s Association, won the Bram Stoker Award for poetry and short fiction, and had over thirty novels and collections published. His series, The novel Nevermore, originally planned to be a flashback in the next installment of his DeChance Chronicles, blends characters and settings from a great number of his novels, including “Darkness Falling,” “The Not Quite Right Reverend Cletus J. Diggs & The Currently Accepted Habits of Nature,” “Kali’s Tale – Book IV of The DeChance Chronicles,” and even his other popular series – written with author Aaron Rosenberg – the Novels of the O.C.L.T. A Prolific author, David lives near the setting of this novel, not far from The Great Dismal Swamp, where he also runs Crossroad Press – one of the fastest growing digital publishing houses in the world.

Favorite Food: I love Sushi and steak, wine and whiskey, and pie. One of my books is “American Pies, Baking With Dave the Pie Guy” and I take those pies seriously.

Favorite Place to Write: My favorite place to write is in my armchair, ergonomic keyboard in my lap and either my cockatiel Tiki Kowalski on my shoulder, or my dog, Gizmo, at my feet.

Favorite Music: If I listen to music while writing, it is usually something moody, like Concrete Blonde, Depeche Mode, Steeleye Span – or old blues.

Favorite TV Show: I love a lot of television shows, but I’m most taken currently with Castle, being a show about a writer – and even more amused by the novels that have ensued, written by a fictional character on a television show about a fictional character.

EXCERPT:

She cautiously took a tiny sip, just enough to wet her lips and the tip of her tongue. The flavor flooded her mouth, and her mind swam with wonderful memories. The taste transformed into that of gigantic popcorn balls the sheriff’s wife down the street made for Halloween trick-or-treaters, accompanied by images of Lyra’s costume—a red, fringed gypsy skirt borrowed from Mom. Next came a pumpkin flavor and vision of holding a cold piece of “punky-pie” in her five-year-old hand. Another swallow returned her experience back to anise. “What is this? How did you know?” “Let me introduce myself.” His grin spread into a smile as his eyes met hers. He took a step closer. “I’m Cullen, Cullen Drake, and I know many things. What I don’t know is what sort of books you like to read.”

MARSHA A. MOORE

Marsha A. Moore is an author of fantasy romance. Much of her life feeds the creative flow she uses to weave highly imaginative tales. The magic of art and nature often spark life into her writing, as well as watercolor painting and drawing. After a move from Toledo to Tampa in 2008, she’s happily transformed into a Floridian, in love with the outdoors. Marsha is crazy about cycling. She lives with her husband on a large saltwater lagoon, where taking her kayak out for an hour or more is a real treat. She never has enough days spent at the beach, usually scribbling away at stories with toes wiggling in the sand. Every day at the beach is magical! She’s been a yoga enthusiast for over a decade and is excited to be taking part in a Kripalu yoga teacher training program during 2013. That spiritual quest helps her explore the mystical side of fantasy.

I’m addicted to watching Once Upon a Time and Vikings.

Alternative History Deals for April 26

A particular subgenre of Fantasy has us buzzing these days: Alternative History. It’s fascinating to take a specific point in history, shuffle things around, and imagine what the world would have been like with a few small (or huge) tweaks.

Bitter Seeds from Ian Tregillis ($2.99 until the end of April) is supernatural version of WWII – where the British have demons and the Nazis have people with supernatural abilities. The Shield Maiden ($1.99 today) is a Viking-era fantasy about a woman who is trying to break apart from her father’s control, while discovering her own supernatural powers.

These deals are good on 4/26.

The Chronicles of Narnia Meets Rick Riordan In This $2.99 Fantasy/Science Fiction – April 26

A LAMENT OF MOONLIGHT is a fantasy with a twist of science fiction that captivate you. This is a classic tale of light versus dark, when three young children are plunged into an adventure full of magic, monsters, and danger. They soon discover that they are the harbingers of light and will need to defeat the  dark goddess to save their world.

Fans of Rick Riordan, Peirce Anthony, and Mercedes Lackey will enjoy A LAMENT OF MOONLIGHT.

The author was inspired by a warm night in October when he stood outside listening to the wind blow through the trees. He wondered what life would be like in the woods at night, and A LAMENT OF MOONLIGHT was born. A young William Moseley would be perfect for Melvin.

EXCERPT:

It was the strangest room Abigail had ever seen, and she found it slightly bewildering that her sensible father would even have such a room. It looked more like it belonged in her aunt Matty or uncle Forts house, not in Rorex’s. The window standing in the center of the round table was not the only oddity in the room, but all along the edge of the table was carved strange, blocky symbols like on the door, and still she could not tell what they were. Part of Abigail truly believed that this was a language of some sort, but then another part of her didn’t want to believe that, for it would imply that her father was able to read the language, and that would mean she didn’t know him as well as she thought.

TRAVIS SIMMONS

I am a bit of a loner. I live my life off the grid, keeping to myself and inside my own head for the most part. I tend to talk to myself about stories and random ideas that come up. At times I run dialogue while I drive, talking things out as if I am reading them from a book (the reason I just bought a digital recorder). I think people will love my stories because they are so much more than just a fun read, they are an in-depth fantasy based in a well fleshed out fantasy world. I love writing, and I don’t think I could stop if I tried. I have all of these ideas that come to me, and just as many files on my computer for each and every one of those ideas. Writing is something I have to do because the characters won’t leave me alone!

Favorite Food : Pizza

Favorite Place to Write: At the moment I do all of my writing in my bedroom overlooking the woods around my home. It seems a nice place to relax and just be part of the stories I write.

Favorite TV Show: A toss up between Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and The Following.

Neil Gaiman and Ray Bradbury are two of the most famous authors of our time – and for good reason. Both gentlemen have captivated countless readers. When we saw that both authors had books on sale today, we were pretty excited (okay, very excited).

American Gods by Neil Gaiman is an American classic. It’s equal parts mystery, literary, and satire- definitely a book that deserves a special place on your Kindle. Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes deserves a spot, as well – it’s a dark, fantastic tale of a carnival. It’s a modern Gothic that will freak you out and delight you page after page.

Hey, I’m Nick. I’m a fan of anything speculative, whether science fiction, fantasy, supernatural or otherwise. Mostly I like to write for intelligent young audiences, and those who are still young in their own opinion (or want to feel young). My focus as a writer is on providing deeply immersive entertainment. I love the sense of being totally absorbed in and carried away by something. That’s the experience I hope to provide in my novels, and all my creative works. I also write musical theatre, and hope to move into screenplays at some stage. Splice Children is my debut science fiction novel. I truly hope you enjoy it.

EXCERPT:

When he looked up his heart raced. There was no denying it. In their few days together he felt more for Avalon than he ever had for Guinevere. Without thinking he stepped closer, intimately close and his nose touched the side of her cheek. “Avalon,” he whispered, his breath uneven, torn between duty and the feelings that had been unleashed when they kissed. “Choose me, Arthur,” she whispered impossibly soft. Looking up, her green eyes pled. As Arthur lingered, the pain grew even more acute causing his eyes to water. “I … can’t,” he finally said. “I have to protect Camelot.” He took a small step back. “Leodegrance expects me to marry Guinevere.”
